Our next summer mission:

Becoming the Next Astropreneur

As the Space economy takes off in Hong Kong and the world, will your teenage children be ready by then? The NewSpace Economy will need hundreds of entrepreneurs, engineers, and innovators by 2030. Do your children show early signs of space readiness, STEM thinking, and engineering prowess? Where are the new jobs for them? Can they become the next Bezos, Altman, or Musk? How to inspire them?

Learn to Explore and Question

Your children’s mission is to seek answers to these quesYons, grounded in fun scienYfic and engineering facts, with a team of fellow astropreneurs:

DAY 1

Engineering Systems and NewSpace

  • Team Formation and Warm up exercises

  • Intro to the NewSpace Economy

  • Project Assignment – what is a NewSpace
    Business

  • Introduction to Systems Leadership, Mission and Payload Specialists, Space Pioneers and Astropreneurship

  • What are the secret ingredients of an
    Astropreneur like Elon, Ma, and Jeff Bezos?

  • Introduction to Space Debris

  • Fun Quizzes

  • Fun Communication Practices

  • Wrap up

DAY 2

Building Miniature Satellites

  • How can I build a miniature satellite (CubeSat) for the Lower Earth Orbit?

  • How are CubeSats used?

  • First Hands-On Lesson CubeSat – Introduction by CubeSat Engineers

  • Hands-on Assembly

  • Trade-offs in life and in space missions

  • The 5S of Management (Sort, Set, Shine,
    Standardise, and Sustain)

  • Communication skills enhancements

  • Fun Quizzes

  • Fun Communication Practices

  • Wrap up

DAY 3

Looking Down and Speaking Up

  • Satellite data used in disaster monitoring and recovery

  • How can I locate habitats and evaluate disaster damages on Earth using satellite imagery data?

  • Why can’t we dial up and speak with an Astronaut on the moon?

  • What it takes to be a real Astropreneur? Self-assessment and write-up to the portfolio.

  • Space Sustainability and Space Debris Removal, at HKU Lab for Space Research,
    Prof. Quentin Parker plus others

DAY 4

Measuring and Tracking Habitats

  • The Stanford Marshmallow Challenge by teams

  • Orientation – the alien challenge and “Are we alone?” with Astronaut Chris Altman

  • What do I need to build a space business on Earth?

  • In search of a space business

  • Team Preparation and mentoring for Presentation of a Business Idea on the use of Satellite Data

  • Fun Quiz

  • Fun Communication Practices

  • Wrap up

DAY 5

Engineering a Space Business

  • Team Presentations, Coaching, and Peer Evaluation

  • Feedback by Judges on final session

  • Space Careers and Jobs

  • Space Dialogue potentially with an Astronaut

  • Introduction to OASA’s Space Accelerator at PolyU, GBA’s first Space
    Accelerator

  • Evaluation and Feedback

  • Award of Certification

  • Registration as Student Member of OASA

  • End of Programme

Age:

Forms 3 to 5, preferably Form 3 and above, Age 14 to 18

Language:

English with PETS/IELTS 5.0/IBT61+ qualification. Language interview will be conducted for students without qualification.

Class size:

12 pax minimum, maximum 25 pax 

Venue:

H6 Conet, G/F, The Center, 99 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong

Attendance Requirements:

80%
